Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you wanted to know about dating on a shift schedule.

Getting Started

What is Swing Shift?+
Swing Shift is a dating app built specifically for shift workers — nurses, firefighters, police, pilots, truckers, hospitality workers, plant operators, and anyone else whose schedule doesn't fit a 9-to-5. We match people by shift pattern and days off so you meet partners whose calendars actually work with yours.
Is Swing Shift free?+
Yes. You can sign up, build a profile, and match for free. Premium features are available for power users.
Do I have to be a shift worker to join?+
You don't have to be — but the app is designed around shift patterns, so most of our users are in healthcare, emergency services, hospitality, transport, utilities, manufacturing, aviation, and similar fields.
How is Swing Shift different from Tinder, Hinge, or Bumble?+
Mainstream apps assume everyone shares the same weekend. Swing Shift asks your shift type and days off at signup and uses that to match you. It's matching on real compatibility, not just geography.

Matching & Compatibility

How does shift-based matching work?+
When you sign up you pick your shift pattern and add your days off. Swing Shift looks for compatible profiles in your area, checks mutual dating preferences, and sorts matches by how many days off you share.
What shift patterns does Swing Shift support?+
We support fixed days, fixed nights, rotating 12s, 4-on/4-off, 48/96, Panama/Pitman, DuPont, irregular, and a custom 'other' option.
Can I match with people who work different shifts than me?+
Yes — a lot of the best matches are cross-pattern. A 4-on/4-off police officer and a Panama plant operator often have heavy overlap. Our compatibility calculator shows you which patterns work together and why.
Do you match based on profession?+
Matching is currently driven by location, mutual dating preferences, age range, and days-off overlap. Profession and industry filters are planned, but schedule compatibility is the core signal.

Safety & Privacy

How does Swing Shift keep users safe?+
We use account authentication, surface safety guidance, and give you tools to block or report anyone. Photo/selfie verification is planned, and badges will only appear for users who complete that process once it is available.
Who can see my shift schedule?+
Only your matches. Your shift type is used for matching, but your detailed days-off calendar is never public.
What do you do with my data?+
We use your data to match you and nothing else. We never sell it. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

Shift Work & Dating

Why is dating as a shift worker so hard?+
Because dating culture is wired for people who are free on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons. Shift workers are on a different calendar, so they miss the window the rest of the world is using to meet people.
Can two shift workers really make a relationship work?+
Absolutely — often better than mixed-schedule couples. Two people who both work shifts tend to understand the off-days, decompression time, and calendar chaos without needing it explained.
What's the best shift combination for dating?+
Matching rotations are ideal (two Panama schedulers on the same pattern, or two 48/96 firefighters). After that, anything with lots of weekday off-days in common tends to work well. Our shift compatibility tool computes it for you.
Is it harder to date with a rotating shift than a fixed shift?+
Yes — rotating shifts change what 'available' looks like every week. The upside is that rotating workers often have large blocks of consecutive days off that fixed-day workers never see.

Premium & Billing

What do I get with Swing Shift premium?+
Premium currently removes daily interest and message limits. Advanced filters, date ideas, boost, incognito browsing, and richer chat signals are on the roadmap and will be labelled clearly as they roll out.
Can I cancel any time?+
Yes. Cancel from your account settings, effective at the end of the billing period.
